Internal whistleblowing channels are a legal requirement in the EU from 2021

Whistleblowing channels have recently gained importance in Europe, especially after the EU Directive 2019/1937 on whistleblowers protection (Whistleblowing Directive).

LThe Directive, adopted in December 2019, requires all companies with more than 50 employees to provide a whistleblowing channel through which employees and third parties can report illegal activities such as fraud, money laundering or data protection breaches. EU member states had until December 2021 to transpose the Directive into national law.
