The number of newly created companies was over 100,000 companies in 2021, an increase of almost 28% over 2020. This confirms the recovery from the Covid-19 crisis, according to INFORMA’s data analysis. The number of companies created in 2021 is the second-highest figure in the last 10 years after 2016, when also more than 100,000 companies were created.
All the autonomous regions have shown an increase in the creation of companies; Madrid is the region with more created companies (23,942 companies), 31% more than in 2020. It is followed by Catalonia, with 19,379, and Andalusia, with 17,529, 27,26% more than in 2020. Cantabria is the region with the highest growth rate compared to 2020, with 43.67%. However, it is the fifth community with less created companies in absolute value (829).
Sectors with more new companies were Construction and real estate activities, followed by Commerce, Business services and Hotels and restaurants.
